Solid walnut coffer of large size, the hinged single plank top with an applied moulded edge decorated with chip carving, the solid walnut carcase carved on the front with blind tracery panels and borders, the original plinth with three inscribed roundels containing six petal flower heads.  Retaining the original iron carrying handles, strap hinges, escutcheon, lock plate, key and decorative straps.  Lock missing. Spain, second half of the 16th century.

Condition: Historic wood worm damage to the sapwood in the plinth, historic wood worm damage to the bottom edge of the carved front, lock missing
