A pair of poplar "scatole della suora" (nun's boxes) of rectangular shape with canted corners, decorated with polychrome and gilt on gesso with punched ground.  The covers with a floral arrangement in an amphora, the bases with punched scrolling floral border.   Tuscan, circa 1500
