Drawn thread textile "card", Dardanelles December 1915
A "card" made from a square of khaki army cotton cloth with drawn thread fringe and borders, decorated in the centre in black ink with a floral border containing the date 1915 and a decorated box with the words Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year. Above in the decorated border Dardanelles and below From Charle. To All at home. A later hand written label with A War-Time Xmas Card. From Cpl C Smith R E
The Gallipoli Campaign of the 1st World War was fought on the Northern Bank of the Dardanelles in the Ottoman Empire between between 19th February 1915 and 9th January 1916. It was considered a major disaster for the Allied Troops.
