Large metal and giltwood corona / baldaquin, Italian, mid 18th century
£0.00
Unusually large metal corona / baldaquin with gilt and silver gilt decoration, the interior with the original hooks for fabric. Italy, mid 18th century
The ribs of the corona have applied gilded leaves with a gilded wooden globe finial, the circular rim studded with applied metal jewels
The scale of this corona makes it an ideal statement piece and would be an opulent addition to a modern interior. The combination of both gold and silver gilt on the metal has a gentle shimmering patina and the inside is complete with the original hooks for hanging fabric.
We suggest that this piece would look striking hung over a table as a centerpiece, converted into a spectacular light. Alternatively it could be used to create a Lit à la Polonais, a grand canopy bed in the Romantic style, first fashionable in the mid 18th century and named after Louis XV’s Polish queen Marie Leszczyńska.
